Day: April 10th

Not much in the garden yet, but there's a truly extraordinary amount of dead leaves thanks to a sack leftover from autumn bursting open.

Day: May 11th

The very first blossom of spring!

Day: May 14th

A lot going on today! First the chives are budding!

And the peonies are budding too! They look so small right now but they just sort of BURST FORTH from the ground where once there was nothing.

The rock garden is underway! There's plans to 'acquire' more rocks from tilled up roads.

The squirrels also did their yearly surprise bulb burial. A nice change from hiding pinecones in the engines of the cars.

Day: May 18th

Not a lot of changes in the garden today - at this point we were still moving the plants in and out of the house due to sudden cold temperatures. However a certain little cat approves of the rock garden.

Let's zoom in there on her total comfort. This was also almost her mug shot when she escaped that night. She came back in hours later, filthy and triumphant, with a :V face and absolutely no guilt for her crimes. We were a little stressed.

Day: May 20th

It's been 6 days and the peonies have tripled in size and become much greener!

So we're not ready to TOTALLY swear to it, but some googling indicates that these mystery plants that have been in the garden since we arrived are sand cherries. Do sand cherries fruit? We just don't know.

Day: May 22nd

Chives are surprisingly photogenic once they bloom. Until then... well, here's the darling buds of may (chives).

We have no idea what this is. It has been here since we arrived. It is a mystery plant. It, too, is budding. 2021/06/02: The mystery plant has been identified! It is a dianthus!

Day: May 26th

These are the plants that were getting guided tours in and out of the house before they were planted. First off, catmint, which was flourishing and continued to grow increasingly powerful after this photo. There were two kinds of lavender as well, but one tragically perished. Its roots were planted in the hopes it would renew itself.

And of course, the internationally beloved flower the snapdragon. It bloomed while on tour, it was almost missed during the initial purchasing because none of the seedlings had flowers yet.

And the last (photographed, there were geraniums, dill, more types of lavender, and other mints) gem, the sweet little violas which at one point got sat on by a rabbit.

Day: May 29th

Today was a HUGE day! The plantings finally happened, plus the bulb plants were going wild! Here's what got done. First off is the thriving Barbara Michael lily!

Also while watering the clematis and climbing rose, we rousted out a poor chubby bumblebee who was undoubtedly going 'what the heck! What the heck!' She dried herself off and flew away.

As predicted, the chives looked lovely in bloom.

The clematis and climbing rose, living together in perfect harmony. It's going to be lovely when they blossom.

If you look inside this fascinating mystery fern that lives in the garden, you'll see a resurrected lavender. Our first recurring lavender!

Not a plant, but always good to see a gnome friend.

The irises are budding!

Cat is photogenic as always. It's hard work supervising gardening.

Look at how tuckered she is. (Don't worry about the leash in the boards there, she knows how to get it out of there faster than we can)

The peonies are nearly here! Look at all those ants helping them along! Do the ants help? Anyway there's lots of ants!

These petunia colours have a different name, but I think of them as peppermint. One of this years display pots.

And on the other side, purple petunias. Like guardian lions. But petunias.

The portulaca is an especial favourite of this household, looking both delicate and fancy but also coming in a wide variety of pretty colours.

The dear sweet violas have been placed all over the garden, but most importantly in this old porcelain shoe.

This picture is simply saved as 'the magic is happening' and boy, is it ever.

And the finished results of today's efforts!! Happy and growing in their new homes.

Day: May 31st

Pansies! Like violas, but bigger. The particular mix that the lovely cream and purple ones come from is called 'wine and cheese'!

The rock garden becomes more impressive. Operation: Get Those Rocks was successful.

Day: June 1st

The first iris has bloomed! They're always so gorgeous.

The mystery plant has also bloomed and is such a bright colour it's actually hard to capture properly on camera. 2021/06/02: The mystery plant has been identified! It is a dianthus!
